Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand how dance has played a role in different historical periods and cultures.

  • Prior knowledge of basic dance movements is helpful, but not required.

Activities

  1. Research a historical period or culture that interests you. Find out if dance was a part of their traditions or celebrations. Take notes on what you discover.

  2. Create a dance routine that incorporates movements inspired by the historical period or culture you researched. You can use traditional music or choose your own.

  3. Perform your dance routine for your family or record a video of it. Explain the historical significance of the dance and the period or culture it represents.
