Ready, Set, Wiggle! Warm-up & Cool-down Fun!
Hi there, Super Mover! Do you love to run, jump, and play? Awesome! Our bodies love to move, but just like a sleepy bear waking up, they need a little help to get ready for action and then to relax afterwards. Today, we're learning about two super important parts of moving: Warming Up and Cooling Down!
Why Warm Up? 🤔
Imagine your muscles are like sleepy, cold rubber bands. If you stretch them too fast, *snap*! Ouch! Warming up is like gently waking up those rubber bands. It gets your blood flowing and tells your muscles, 'Get ready for fun!' This helps prevent ouches.
Let's Warm Up! The Wiggle Warm-up! 🎉
(Put on some fun, upbeat music!)
- Marching Like a Soldier: March in place, swing your arms, and lift those knees high! (1 minute)
- Arm Circles: Make small circles with your arms forward, then backward. Now make BIG circles! Reach way out! (1 minute)
- Funny Walks: Let's walk like different animals! Do a bear crawl (hands and feet), a crab walk (sideways), or frog jumps! (2 minutes)
- Light Jog: Gently jog in place or around your space. Not too fast! (1 minute)
How do you feel? A little warmer? Ready to play?
Why Cool Down? 😌
After all that fun playing and moving, your body needs to chill out. Cooling down is like giving your muscles a nice, gentle hug. It helps them relax and keeps them from feeling tight or sore later. We do slow movements and stretches.
Let's Cool Down! The Calm Cloud Cool-down! â˜ï¸
(Put on some slow, calm music.)
- Slow Walk & Deep Breaths: Walk slowly around your space. Take big, slow breaths. Breathe in like you're smelling a flower, breathe out like you're blowing out birthday candles. (1 minute)
- Reach for the Stars, Touch Your Toes: Stand tall, reach way up high! Then slowly bend down and try to touch your toes. Don't worry if you can't reach, just hang like a floppy rag doll. (Hold for 15 seconds, repeat 2 times)
- Butterfly Stretch: Sit down, put the bottoms of your feet together, and gently flap your knees like butterfly wings. (Hold for 30 seconds)
- Hug Your Knees: Lie on your back and gently pull your knees towards your chest for a big hug. (Hold for 30 seconds)
