Hello Explorer! Let's Learn About Amazing Parrots!

Have you ever seen a bird with super bright colors? That might be a parrot! Parrots are beautiful birds that live in warm, sunny places, often in rainforests.

What Do Parrots Look Like?

Let's look at some pictures! (Show pictures/videos)

  • Parrots have strong, curved beaks to crack open seeds and nuts. Can you make a beak shape with your hand?
  • They are covered in feathers of many amazing colors! What colors do you see? (Point out red, blue, green, yellow).
  • Most parrots have two feet with special toes that help them grip branches and hold food.
  • They have wings to fly! Let's flap our arms like parrot wings! Flap, flap, flap!

What Do Parrots Do?

  • Fly: Zooming through the sky!
  • Squawk! Parrots can be noisy! Can you make a parrot sound? "Squawk! Squawk!"
  • Talk? Some parrots can even learn to copy human words! "Polly want a cracker!"
  • Eat: They love eating seeds, nuts, fruits, and sometimes even flowers.

Fun Activities!

Let's get creative!

  1. Color a Parrot: Use your brightest crayons or markers to color a parrot picture. Make it as colorful as you can! (Provide coloring page or plain paper).
  2. Parrot Craft (Optional): Let's make a simple parrot mask using a paper plate, or glue colorful feathers onto your drawing!
  3. Parrot Pretend Play: Let's pretend to be parrots! Fly around the room, perch on a chair (branch), and nibble on a pretend seed (or a real cracker/seed snack with help).
  4. Story Time (Optional): Let's read a fun story about a parrot.
