Tiny Explorers: Up and Over!
Welcome to a fun movement adventure! Today, we're exploring how to move our bodies up and over soft, safe things. Remember to always supervise closely and keep it playful!
Warm-Up (2-3 minutes)
- Gentle stretches: Lay baby on their back and gently bicycle their legs. Gently move their arms out to the sides and back in.
- Tummy Time Fun: Encourage a little tummy time to strengthen neck and back muscles. Place a favourite toy just out of reach.
Activity: The Soft Obstacle Path! (5-7 minutes)
- Set Up: Create a safe, clear space on a soft floor (carpet or play mat). Arrange 1-2 soft obstacles like pillows, rolled-up blankets, or large, soft stuffed animals in a line or path. Make sure they are low and stable.
- Demonstrate: Get down on the floor with your baby. Show them how you can crawl or move over the pillow. Use encouraging words like 'Up... and over!' or 'Look, we can go over the fluffy cloud!'.
- Encourage Exploration: Place your baby near the start of the path. Encourage them to move towards a toy placed on the other side. Offer gentle guidance or support if needed, but let them try to navigate the obstacle themselves. They might crawl over, roll over, or push their way over – it's all wonderful exploration!
- Cheer Them On!: Offer lots of smiles, clapping, and positive words ('Wow!', 'You did it!', 'So strong!').
- Repeat (Optional): If your baby is engaged, let them try the path again. Keep the session short and stop if they show signs of tiredness or frustration.
Cool Down (2-3 minutes)
- Cuddle Time: Pick up your baby for some soothing cuddles.
- Gentle Rocking: Gently rock or sway while humming a soft song.
Important Safety Note: Always provide direct, hands-on supervision. Ensure obstacles are soft, low, and stable, with no sharp edges or small parts. The play area should be free of hazards.
