Activities

  1. Start by discussing what makes a book fall into the horror genre. Talk about common themes and elements found in horror books, such as suspense, supernatural elements, and fear.
  2. Choose a horror book from your collection and read a chapter together. As you read, encourage the student to take notes on the setting, plot, and character development. Discuss any elements of horror that stand out in the chapter.
  3. Ask the student to independently read a different horror book of their choice. Once they have finished reading, have them write a short book review focusing on the elements of horror they identified in the book. Encourage them to provide specific examples from the text.
  4. Have a discussion about the student's book review. Ask them to share their thoughts on the book and how the author effectively created a sense of horror. Encourage them to support their opinions with evidence from the text.
