Get ready to dive into the wonderful world of Anne Shirley! We'll explore Avonlea, meet unforgettable characters, and follow Anne's journey of imagination, mishaps, and finding a place to belong.

This lesson is divided into parts, based on sections of the book. Read the assigned chapters, think about the discussion questions, and then test your knowledge with a short quiz!


Part 1: Arrival in Avonlea (Chapters 1-8)

Reading Assignment: Read Chapters 1 through 8.

Discussion Questions:

  • What were your first impressions of Anne? Is she what Marilla and Matthew expected?
  • Describe the setting of Green Gables and Avonlea. How does Anne react to it?
  • What mistake do Marilla and Matthew realize they've made? How do they decide to handle it?
