By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic arithmetic concepts and apply them in creating your own artwork.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or crayons

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Create a Number Artwork

Draw a large number on your paper using a pencil or crayon. Then, use different colors to fill in the number, making it vibrant and creative. You can use patterns, shapes, or even draw objects that represent the number.

  2. Addition Art

Choose two colors and draw two different shapes on your paper. Count the number of shapes you drew in each color. Then, add the two numbers together and draw a new shape using a different color to represent the sum.

  3. Subtraction Collage

Draw a large shape on your paper. Cut out smaller shapes from colored paper or magazines. Subtract the number of smaller shapes you cut out from the larger shape by crossing them out or erasing them. Arrange the remaining shapes to create a collage.
