Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to explore and appreciate visual arts through the activity of creating and solving puzzles.

Materials and Prep

  • A set of blank puzzle pieces (can be made from cardboard or paper)
  • Coloring materials (crayons, markers, or colored pencils)
  • Scissors

Before starting the lesson, make sure the puzzle pieces are cut out and ready for coloring.

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of puzzles and explain that they are like a picture that is divided into pieces.
  2. Show the blank puzzle pieces to the student and explain that they will be creating their own puzzle.
  3. Encourage the student to use their imagination and creativity to draw a picture on each puzzle piece using the coloring materials.
  4. Once the puzzle pieces are colored, help the student cut them out along the lines.
  5. Mix up the puzzle pieces and ask the student to solve the puzzle by putting the pieces back together to recreate the picture.
  6. Repeat the activity multiple times with different puzzle designs.
