Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the concept of Himing and its relevance to Earth Science.

Materials and Prep

  • Flashlight
  • Dark room
  • White sheet or wall

Activities

  1. Turn off the lights in a room and close the curtains to make it as dark as possible.
  2. Place a white sheet or use a white wall as a background.
  3. Give the toddler the flashlight and show them how to turn it on and off.
  4. Encourage the toddler to shine the flashlight onto the white sheet or wall.
  5. Explain to the toddler that the light from the flashlight is called "Himing".
  6. Ask the toddler to move the flashlight around and observe how the Himing creates different shapes and shadows on the sheet or wall.
  7. Encourage the toddler to experiment with different movements and angles of the flashlight to create interesting patterns.
  8. Discuss with the toddler how Himing is a type of light and how light can help us see things in the dark.
