Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and understand a Barbie-themed story, identify key characters and events, and answer comprehension questions related to the story.

Materials and Prep

  • A Barbie-themed storybook
  • Index cards or small pieces of paper
  • A pencil or marker

Activities

  1. Read the Barbie-themed storybook together.

Take turns reading aloud or read the story to your child, pointing out the illustrations and discussing the characters and events as you go along.

  2. Create character cards.

Write the names of the main characters from the story on separate index cards or small pieces of paper. Show each card to your child and ask them to repeat the name of the character.

  3. Retell the story using the character cards.

Place the character cards in front of your child and ask them to retell the story by placing the cards in the correct order. Encourage them to use their own words and describe the events that happened in the story.

  4. Ask comprehension questions.

Using the character cards as visual aids, ask your child questions about the story, such as "Who was the main character?" or "What happened at the beginning of the story?" Allow them to refer to the cards as needed to help answer the questions.
