God's Wonderful Water Cycle Adventure!

Materials Needed:

• A clear cup or glass jar
• A ceramic or glass plate
• Warm water (warm to the touch, not boiling)
• A few ice cubes
• Optional: Blue food coloring

Lesson Plan (15 Minutes)

1. Introduction: The Amazing Journey of Water (3 minutes)

• Ask your student: "Have you ever looked at a puddle after it rains and wondered where the water goes? Or how clouds get way up in the sky?"
• Explain the Big Idea: "God designed a super clever and loving plan for all the water on Earth. It's always moving and being recycled in a big circle called the water cycle. It’s how He makes sure the trees, flowers, animals, and we always have the water we need. Let’s make our own mini water cycle to see how He did it!"

2. Activity: Make-It-Rain Experiment (8 minutes)

Follow these steps together, explaining each part of the cycle as you go.

1. Make the "Ocean" (Evaporation):
   • Pour about an inch of warm water into the clear cup. If you like, add one drop of blue food coloring to make it look like the ocean.
   • Say: "This cup is like the big oceans and lakes that God made. When the sun, also made by our Creator, shines down and warms the water, some of it turns into an invisible vapor and floats up into the air. This is called evaporation. It’s like the water is going up to the sky!"
2. Make a "Cloud" (Condensation):
   • Quickly cover the top of the cup with the plate.
   • Place 3-4 ice cubes on top of the plate.
   • Say: "This cold plate is like the cool air high up in the sky. Watch what happens when the warm water vapor from our 'ocean' hits the cold plate."
   • Observe the underside of the plate. You will see tiny water droplets start to form.
   • Say: "Look! The vapor is turning back into water drops. This is called condensation. This is exactly how God designed clouds to form! Millions of tiny droplets gather together."
3. Make "Rain" (Precipitation):
   • Continue watching the plate. As more droplets form, they will combine, get bigger, and become heavy.
   • Eventually, a drop will fall from the plate back into the cup. You made it rain!
   • Say: "When the droplets in the clouds get too big and heavy, they fall back to the earth as rain. This is called precipitation. Isn't that a wonderful and wise way to water the whole world? God's plan makes sure the water goes back to the ground so new plants can grow."

3. Conclusion: God's Perfect Plan (4 minutes)

• Review with Hand Motions:
  • For Evaporation, wiggle your fingers upwards.
  • For Condensation, clasp your hands together above your head to make a "cloud."
  • For Precipitation, wiggle your fingers downwards like falling rain.
• Connect to the Creator: "Isn't God so wise to create this amazing water cycle? It works perfectly all the time, cleaning our water and bringing rain for the thirsty ground. He lovingly takes care of his creation with this beautiful design."
• Closing Question: "What is your favorite part of God's water cycle? The warm sun, the fluffy clouds, or the refreshing rain?"
