By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and understand a simple text about butterflies.

Materials and Prep

  • A book or printed article about butterflies
  • Paper and pencils

Activities

  1. Start by discussing what the student already knows about butterflies. Ask questions like: "What do butterflies look like?" and "Where do butterflies live?" Write down their answers on a piece of paper.
  2. Show the student the book or printed article about butterflies. Ask them to look at the pictures and talk about what they see.
  3. Read the text together, taking turns reading aloud. Encourage the student to sound out unfamiliar words and ask for help when needed.
  4. After reading, ask the student to summarize what they learned about butterflies. Write down their summary on a separate piece of paper.
  5. Have the student draw a picture of a butterfly based on what they learned from the text. They can use the paper and pencils for this activity.
  6. Ask the student to write a sentence or two about their butterfly drawing. Encourage them to use descriptive words and complete sentences.
