Objective
By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to demonstrate improved walking and climbing skills.
Materials and Prep
- Open space for walking and climbing
- Soft mats or cushions for safety
- Comfortable clothing and shoes
- Water bottle for hydration
Activities
-
Warm-up Stretching:
Start by standing with feet shoulder-width apart and reaching arms up high. Reach down to touch toes, then slowly roll up to standing position. Repeat 5 times.
-
Walking Maze:
Create a maze using pillows, cushions, or tape on the floor. Encourage the toddler to walk through the maze, following the designated path. Count how many times they successfully complete the maze.
-
Obstacle Course:
Set up a simple obstacle course using pillows, cushions, and small furniture. Include climbing over cushions, crawling under a table, and walking on a balance beam (a strip of tape on the floor can act as a makeshift balance beam). Time the toddler to see how quickly they can complete the course.
-
Simon Says - Movement Edition:
Play a game of "Simon Says" with movement commands, such as "Simon says walk like a duck" or "Simon says climb like a monkey". Encourage the toddler to imitate the movements and have fun with it.
