Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and interpret texts related to veganism, while improving their reading comprehension skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Internet access
  • Access to a library or books on veganism
  • Notebook and pen/pencil

Activities

  1. Research and Reading: Have the student search online or visit the library to find articles, essays, or books related to veganism. They should choose at least two texts to read and take notes on.

  2. Text Analysis: Ask the student to analyze the texts they read by answering the following questions in their notebook:

    • What is the main argument or message of each text?
    • What evidence or examples do the authors use to support their claims?
    • What are the strengths and weaknesses of each text?
    • Do you agree or disagree with the authors' viewpoints? Why?
  3. Discussion: Engage in a conversation with the student about their findings and opinions on veganism. Encourage them to provide evidence from the texts they read to support their arguments. Discuss any ethical, environmental, or health-related aspects of veganism that they find interesting or controversial.

  4. Writing Response: Have the student write a short essay or reflection piece on their overall understanding of veganism based on the texts they read and the discussion. They should include their personal perspective and any changes in their thinking, if applicable.
