Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and understand basic geometric shapes using your interest in trucks.
Materials and Prep
- Toy trucks
- Construction paper
- Markers or crayons
- Scissors
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Shape Truck Hunt: Hide different geometric shapes around the room or outdoor area. Give your child a toy truck and ask them to find a specific shape. For example, say, "Can you find a triangle? Drive your truck to it!" Repeat for different shapes.
- Shape Truck Collage: Provide your child with construction paper, markers or crayons, and scissors. Ask them to draw and cut out various shapes. Then, have them glue the shapes onto the construction paper to create their own shape truck collage.
- Shape Truck Sorting: Create a sorting activity using different shapes cut out of construction paper. Ask your child to sort the shapes into different groups based on their characteristics. For example, they can sort by color, number of sides, or size.
Preschool Grade Talking Points

- "Let's go on a shape truck hunt! I will give you clues, and you need to find the truck with that shape. Can you find a triangle?"
- "Great job finding the triangle! Triangles have three sides. Can you show me three fingers?"
- "Now, let's create our own shape truck collage. Choose different shapes and colors to make your truck unique!"
- "Do you remember the shapes we found earlier? Let's sort them into groups. Can you put all the circles together?"
- "You did a fantastic job exploring shapes with trucks today! Remember, shapes are all around us, even in things we love like trucks."
