Objective

By the end of this lesson, the homeschool student will be able to integrate science concepts into their reading comprehension and analysis skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Science-related books or articles
  • Writing materials (paper and pen/pencil)
  • Computer or tablet with internet access (optional)

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Choose a science-related book or article to read.

    Encourage the student to select a topic of interest within the field of science.

  2. Read the selected material together or independently.

    Take notes on important scientific concepts or vocabulary encountered while reading.

  3. Discuss the reading and the integration of science concepts.

    Ask the student to share their understanding of the scientific concepts they encountered and how they relate to the overall text.

  4. Write a short summary or analysis of the reading.

    Encourage the student to incorporate the scientific concepts they learned into their writing.

  5. Optional: Further research

    If the student is interested, they can use a computer or tablet to conduct additional research on the science topic they read about.
