Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand basic concepts of environmental science, such as recycling and conserving resources.
Materials and Prep
- Recyclable materials (paper, plastic, aluminum cans, etc.)
- A recycling bin
- A nature book or magazine
- Scissors
- Glue
- Construction paper
Activities
- Recycling Sort: Ask the student to help you sort the recyclable materials into different categories (paper, plastic, aluminum cans, etc.). Discuss why it is important to recycle and how it helps the environment.
- Nature Collage: Look through the nature book or magazine together and find pictures of different elements of nature (plants, animals, trees, etc.). Help the student cut out the pictures and glue them onto construction paper to create a nature collage. Talk about how important it is to take care of nature and why we should appreciate and protect it.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Did you know that when we recycle, we help the Earth? Recycling means we take things that we don't need anymore and turn them into new things."
- "When we recycle paper, it can be made into new paper. Can you think of other things we can recycle?"
- "Nature is all around us! We have trees, flowers, birds, and animals. They all need our help to stay healthy and happy."
- "Why do you think it's important to take care of nature? What are some ways we can take care of it?"
