Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to engage in language arts activities related to reading, using Elmo as a theme.

Materials and Prep

  • Elmo books or printouts
  • Colorful markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Construction paper

Before starting the lesson, make sure the toddler is familiar with Elmo and has access to a comfortable reading area.

Activities

  1. Read an Elmo book together: Choose a favorite Elmo book and read it aloud to the toddler. Encourage them to point at pictures and repeat simple words or phrases.
  2. Create an Elmo bookmark: Cut a rectangular shape from construction paper and let the toddler decorate it with markers or crayons. Help them draw Elmo's face or any other Elmo-related design. Once finished, fold the top part of the rectangle and glue it to the back of the page to create a bookmark.
  3. Act out an Elmo story: Choose a short Elmo story or make one up together. Take turns pretending to be Elmo and other characters from the story. Encourage the toddler to use simple words or gestures to express their ideas and feelings.
