Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and understand a short story related to Minecraft.
Materials and Prep
- A computer or tablet with Minecraft installed
- A Minecraft-themed storybook or a printed Minecraft story
- A quiet space for reading
Activities
-
Start by discussing with the student their interest in Minecraft. Ask them what they like about the game and what their favorite aspects are.
-
Show the student the Minecraft-themed storybook or the printed Minecraft story. Explain that they will be reading a story related to Minecraft today.
Read the title of the story together and ask the student to make predictions about what the story might be about based on the title and any illustrations on the cover.
-
Begin reading the story aloud to the student, encouraging them to follow along with their finger or a pointer as you read. Pause occasionally to ask comprehension questions and check their understanding of the story.
-
After finishing the story, ask the student to retell the main events of the story in their own words. Encourage them to use complete sentences and include important details.
-
Have the student read the story independently, or with your guidance if needed. Encourage them to sound out unfamiliar words and use context clues to understand their meaning.
-
Once the student has finished reading the story, engage in a discussion about their favorite part of the story and why they liked it. Ask them if there were any surprises or interesting characters in the story.
