Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand and appreciate the changes that occur during autumn and how they relate to environmental science.
Materials and Prep
- Pen or pencil
- Paper or notebook
- Access to a window or outdoor space
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Take a nature walk: Go outside and observe the changes happening during autumn. Look for different colors of leaves, fallen leaves on the ground, and any changes in the weather. Take notes or draw pictures of what you see.
- Leaf rubbing: Collect a few leaves from your walk. Place a leaf under a piece of paper and gently rub a crayon or pencil over it to create a leaf impression. Try this with different leaves and compare their shapes and textures.
- Seasonal sorting: Using the leaves you collected, sort them into piles based on their colors or shapes. Discuss why leaves change color in the fall and why some leaves fall off the trees.
- Autumn collage: Create an autumn-themed collage using the leaves, twigs, and other natural materials you collected. Glue them onto a piece of paper or cardboard to make a beautiful artwork.
