Materials and Prep

  • Whiteboard or paper
  • Marker or pen

No prior knowledge or preparation is needed for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Word Building:

Using the magnet tiles, ask your child to build words related to magnet tiles. Start with simple words like "magnet," "tile," and "play." Encourage them to sound out each letter and place it in the correct order.

  2. Word Hunt:

Hide the magnet tiles around the room or designated area. Give your child a list of words to find using the tiles. For example, "Find the tiles that spell 'fun'." Let them search for the tiles and place them in the correct order to spell the word.

  3. Word Sorting:

Write different words related to magnet tiles on the whiteboard or paper. Ask your child to sort the words based on specific criteria, such as the number of letters or beginning sounds. For example, they can sort words into groups of three-letter words and four-letter words.
