Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to improve your spelling skills while exploring your interest in art.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or markers
  • Art supplies of your choice (e.g., crayons, colored pencils, watercolors)
  • A list of spelling words (provided by your teacher or parent)

Activities

  1. Create an Artistic Spelling Word List

Write down your list of spelling words on a piece of paper. Then, turn each word into a creative art piece by drawing or designing an image that represents the word. For example, if one of your spelling words is "cat," you can draw a cute cat next to the word.

  2. Spelling Artwork

Choose one of your spelling words from the list and write it in large, bold letters on a separate sheet of paper. Then, decorate the word using your art supplies. You can use different colors, patterns, or even create a collage with cut-out pictures from magazines.

  3. Spelling Scavenger Hunt

Take a walk around your house or outside and look for objects that start with each of your spelling words. Write down the objects you find next to the corresponding words. For example, if one of your spelling words is "tree," you can write down "tree" and draw a picture of a tree next to it.
