Materials and Prep
- A whiteboard
- A whiteboard marker
- A list of spelling words
Activities
- Warm-up: Write a Word
- Word Scramble
- Missing Letters
- Rapid Fire Spelling
- Spelling Bee
Start by writing a spelling word on the whiteboard. Ask the student to spell the word out loud and write it on the whiteboard. Repeat this activity with a few different words to get warmed up.
Write a spelling word on the whiteboard, but scramble the letters. Challenge the student to unscramble the word and write it correctly on the whiteboard.
Select a spelling word and write it on the whiteboard, but with some letters missing. Ask the student to identify the missing letters and fill them in correctly.
Call out a spelling word and ask the student to quickly write it on the whiteboard. Time them to see how fast they can spell each word correctly. Keep a record of their best times and encourage them to beat their own records.
Create a mini spelling bee by giving the student a list of words to spell. Read each word aloud and have the student spell it on the whiteboard. Provide positive feedback and correct any mistakes.
