By the end of this lesson, you will be able to learn and practice basic tap dance steps and rhythms.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space to move around
  • Comfortable clothes and shoes
  • Music player or device

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start by stretching your legs, arms, and body. Wiggle your toes and shake your body to get ready for dancing.

  2. Learn the basic tap dance steps: Begin by practicing the "shuffle" step. Stand with your feet together, then step one foot slightly forward and tap the toe on the ground. Repeat with the other foot. Try to make a soft sound with your taps.

  3. Create your own tap dance routine: Combine the shuffle step with other basic tap dance steps you have learned, such as the "heel dig" or the "ball change." Experiment with different rhythms and patterns to create your own unique routine.

  4. Perform your tap dance routine: Once you feel confident with your routine, find a space where you can perform it for your family or friends. Don't forget to smile and have fun while dancing!
