Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write an engaging paragraph about London, using descriptive language and proper sentence structure.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Internet access (optional)

Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with basic facts about London, such as its landmarks, culture, and history.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Begin by discussing with your student what they already know or find interesting about London. Encourage them to share their thoughts and ideas. Write down their responses on a piece of paper.

  2. Research and Learn: If you have internet access, explore websites or books together to gather more information about London. Focus on its famous landmarks, such as the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and the River Thames. Discuss the city's history, culture, and any other interesting facts you discover.

  3. Descriptive Writing: Using the brainstormed ideas and the information gathered, guide your student in writing a descriptive paragraph about London. Encourage them to use vivid adjectives, sensory details, and proper sentence structure. Remind them to include an introductory sentence, supporting details, and a closing sentence.

  4. Editing and Revising: Once the paragraph is written, review it together and discuss ways to improve it. Look for opportunities to add more descriptive language, vary sentence structure, and ensure clarity. Make any necessary edits or revisions.

  5. Final Draft: Have your student rewrite their paragraph neatly on a separate sheet of paper. Encourage them to use their best handwriting and make it visually appealing.
