No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Word Hunt: Take a walk outdoors and make a list of interesting words related to walking that you come across. For example, you may find words like "sidewalk," "pedestrian," or "stroll." Write down the words and their correct spellings.
- Spelling Relay: Create flashcards with walking-related words. Divide the words equally into two sets. Stand at one end of the room with the first set of flashcards, and have the student stand at the other end with the second set. Call out a word, and the student has to spell it correctly to earn a point. Take turns until all the words have been spelled.
- Spelling Bee: Compile a list of challenging walking-related words. Give the student time to study the words, and then conduct a spelling bee. Pronounce each word clearly, and have the student spell it out loud. Provide positive feedback and encouragement throughout the activity.
