Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify different types of rocks and understand how they are formed.
Materials and Prep
- A collection of rocks (at least 5 different types)
- A magnifying glass
- A notebook and pencil
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Introduction: Start by showing the collection of rocks to the student. Discuss their various shapes, colors, and sizes.
- Observation: Have the student use the magnifying glass to examine each rock closely. Encourage them to note any patterns or unique features.
- Classification: Ask the student to sort the rocks into different groups based on their characteristics. They can create labels for each group.
- Research: Using the notebook, have the student write down the name of each rock and any information they find about its formation and properties.
- Present Findings: Give the student an opportunity to share their findings with you or other family members. Encourage them to explain why they grouped the rocks the way they did.
