Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to explore the connection between natural medicine and visual arts, and gain an appreciation for the artistic representation of natural remedies.

Materials and Prep

  • Internet access
  • Art supplies (paper, pencils, colored pencils, markers, etc.)
  • Access to a library or books on art history and natural medicine

Activities

  1. Research

    Using the internet or library resources, research different natural remedies and their historical uses. Take notes on their benefits and the plants or ingredients involved.

  2. Artistic Representation

    Create a visual representation of one of the natural remedies you researched. Use your art supplies to draw or paint a scene that depicts the remedy and its associated plants or ingredients. Be creative and incorporate elements of nature and healing.

  3. Reflection

    Write a reflection on the connection between natural medicine and visual arts. Discuss how art can be used to communicate the healing properties of natural remedies and how it can inspire people to explore alternative therapies.
