Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to analyze and interpret a soccer-related reading passage, and apply reading comprehension strategies to answer questions.

Materials and Prep

  • Soccer-themed reading passage (can be found online or in a book)
  • Pen or pencil
  • Notebook or loose-leaf paper

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Begin by discussing your interest in soccer and why you enjoy playing it. Share any memorable experiences you've had on the field.
  2. Reading Comprehension: Read the soccer-themed passage aloud or silently. Take your time to understand the main ideas and details presented.
  3. Annotation: As you read, underline or highlight important information, unfamiliar words, or any questions that arise.
  4. Discussion: Discuss the passage with your teacher or a family member. Talk about what you found interesting, confusing, or surprising.
  5. Question Analysis: Answer the following questions based on the passage:
    • "What are the benefits of playing soccer?"
    • "How does soccer promote teamwork?"
    • "What are some common soccer terms?"
  6. Writing Exercise: Write a short paragraph describing your favorite soccer player or team. Include details about their skills, achievements, and why you admire them.
