Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and locate different countries on a world map, while also learning about the cultural significance of music in different regions.

Materials and Prep

  • World map or globe
  • Piano or keyboard
  • Printed pictures of famous landmarks from different countries
  • Internet access (optional)

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of geography and explain that we will be exploring different countries on a map.

    Show the student the world map or globe and point out their own country of residence.

  2. Ask the student to choose a country they are interested in and find it on the map.

    Using the printed pictures of famous landmarks, encourage the student to identify and locate those landmarks on the map.

  3. Discuss the cultural significance of music in different countries.

    Show the student a piano or keyboard and explain that we will be learning a simple song from their chosen country.

    Using the internet or other resources, find a traditional song from that country and teach the student how to play a simplified version on the piano or keyboard.

  4. Encourage the student to practice the song and perform it for family or friends.

    Ask the student to share any interesting facts they learned about the country and its music.
