Activities
- Introduction to Hummingbirds: Show the student pictures or read books about hummingbirds to introduce them to these fascinating creatures. Discuss their characteristics, such as their small size, ability to hover, and vibrant colors.
- Observational Drawing: Have the student observe a picture of a hummingbird and guide them to draw their own hummingbird on a piece of white paper using a pencil. Encourage them to pay attention to the bird's body shape, beak, wings, and tail.
- Coloring and Decorating: Once the hummingbird sketch is complete, provide the student with colored pencils or crayons to add vibrant colors to their drawing. Encourage them to be creative and use different shades and patterns.
- Cutting and Gluing: Help the student cut out their hummingbird drawing along the outline. Then, provide them with another sheet of paper where they can glue their hummingbird artwork. They can also add additional elements like flowers or a background.
- Reflection and Discussion: Ask the student questions about their artwork. What colors did they choose? Why did they decide to add certain details? Encourage them to express their thoughts and feelings about their creation.
