Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to make a delicious toasted sandwich, explore the different names for toasties in other parts of the world, research the most expensive toastie and its ingredients, and come up with creative fillings for your own toastie.

Materials and Prep

  • Toaster or sandwich press
  • Bread slices
  • Butter or cooking spray
  • Various fillings such as cheese, ham, vegetables, etc.
  • Research materials (books, internet access)
  • Drawing materials (paper, pencils, markers)

Activities

  1. Start by discussing the concept of a toasted sandwich and its popularity around the world. Ask the student if they know any other names for toasted sandwiches in different countries.
  2. Have the student research and discover the names for toasties in other parts of the world. Encourage them to write down the names and their corresponding countries.
  3. Next, ask the student to research the most expensive toastie ever made and find out what ingredients were used. Discuss why it was considered expensive and what made it unique.
  4. Now, it's time for the student to get creative! Have them brainstorm and come up with their own unique fillings for a toastie. Encourage them to think outside the box and consider different flavor combinations.
  5. Ask the student to draw a design of their ideal toastie, labeling the fillings and any additional toppings they would like to include.
  6. Finally, guide the student in making their own toasted sandwich using the chosen fillings and toppings. Assist them in using the toaster or sandwich press safely and correctly.
