Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to make a delicious toasted sandwich, learn about different names for toasties around the world, research the most expensive toastie and its ingredients, and explore creative fillings for your own toastie.

Materials and Prep

• Toaster or sandwich press
• Bread
• Butter or margarine
• Various fillings (e.g. cheese, ham, tomatoes, etc.)
• Paper and pencil for drawing
• Access to the internet for research

Activities

1. Start by researching the different names for toasties in other parts of the world. Write down at least three different names and their corresponding countries.
2. Next, use the internet to find out about the most expensive toastie ever made. What were the ingredients used in it? Write down the details and the reason behind its high cost.
3. Now, it's time to get creative! Think of unique fillings for your own toastie. Write down at least three creative fillings that you can imagine.
4. Take out a sheet of paper and draw your design for the fillings of your dream toastie. Be sure to label the toppings and ingredients.
5. Finally, it's time to make your own toasted sandwich! Follow the steps below:
   1. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
   2. Place your chosen fillings between the buttered sides of the bread.
   3. Heat your toaster or sandwich press.
   4. Carefully place your sandwich in the toaster or press and cook until golden and the filling is melted.
   5. Enjoy your delicious homemade toastie!
