Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply statistical concepts to analyze and make decisions in the context of Fantasy football.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen and paper
  • Computer or smartphone with internet access
  • Prior knowledge of basic statistics concepts (mean, median, mode, standard deviation)

Activities

  1. Research and select a Fantasy football team for the current season. Write down the names of the players and their respective positions.

  2. Collect the statistical data for each player's performance in the previous season. This may include total points scored, average points per game, number of touchdowns, number of yards gained, etc.

  3. Calculate the mean, median, and mode of the total points scored by the players in your team. Use these measures of central tendency to evaluate the overall performance of your team.

  4. Compute the standard deviation of the average points per game for your team. Discuss how this measure helps identify the consistency or variability in player performances.

  5. Compare the statistics of your team with the statistics of another Fantasy football team. Identify similarities and differences in the performance of the players based on the statistical data.
