Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recreate Leonardo Da Vinci's painting by sketching, coloring, or painting. You will also gain knowledge about each artist discussed in today's lesson and be able to write a paragraph explaining your preference for one artist and why.

Materials and Prep

  • Artist workbook (page 27)
  • Reference book of Leonardo Da Vinci
  • The Louvre 300 Masterpieces book
  • Drawing paper
  • Sketching pencils
  • Coloring materials (colored pencils, markers, or paints)

Activities

  1. Open the artist workbook to page 27, which features Leonardo Da Vinci's painting.
  2. Using the reference book of Leonardo Da Vinci and The Louvre 300 Masterpieces book, study the original painting to understand its details and techniques.
  3. Choose your preferred medium (sketching, coloring, or painting) to recreate the artwork on a separate sheet of drawing paper.
  4. Pay attention to the composition, colors, and brushstrokes used by Leonardo Da Vinci.
  5. Once you have finished recreating the artwork, compare it with the original painting and make any necessary adjustments.
  6. Take notes on each artist discussed in today's lesson, including Leonardo Da Vinci.
  7. Write a paragraph explaining which artist you prefer and why. Include details about their style, techniques, and the emotions their artwork evokes in you.
