Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and use various English grammar concepts while analyzing The Book Thief.

Materials and Prep

  • A copy of The Book Thief
  • A notebook or paper
  • A pen or pencil

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Parts of Speech

    Read a chapter from The Book Thief and identify at least five different nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Write them down in your notebook and explain why you chose each word.

  2. Activity 2: Sentence Structure

    Select a paragraph from The Book Thief and rewrite it, changing the sentence structure. For example, if the original sentence is a simple sentence, transform it into a compound or complex sentence. Write down both the original and revised versions in your notebook.

  3. Activity 3: Punctuation Marks

    Choose a few sentences from The Book Thief and add appropriate punctuation marks. Make sure to explain the purpose of each punctuation mark you use.
