Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and understand a story from the "In the Night Garden" series.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start by asking the student if they have heard of or read any "In the Night Garden" books before. Allow them to share their thoughts and experiences.
  2. Introduce the book: Show the student the "In the Night Garden" book and read the title together. Discuss the cover illustration and ask the student to predict what the story might be about.
  3. Read aloud: Read the book aloud to the student, encouraging them to follow along with their finger. Pause occasionally to ask comprehension questions or discuss interesting parts of the story.
  4. Retell the story: After reading the book, ask the student to retell the story in their own words. Encourage them to include important details and the main events of the plot.
  5. Writing activity: Have the student write a short paragraph or draw a picture to summarize their favorite part of the story. Assist them as needed and provide positive feedback on their effort.
