Activities

Reading and Summarizing
Choose a book or short story and read it together. After reading, ask the student to write a brief summary of the main events and characters in the story.

Character Analysis
Select a character from the story and ask the student to describe the character's traits, motivations, and actions. Encourage them to provide evidence from the text to support their analysis.

Theme Identification
Discuss the concept of theme with the student. Choose a different book or short story and ask them to identify the main theme or message conveyed by the author. Have them explain their reasoning using examples from the text.

Comparing and Contrasting
Select two different books or short stories with similar themes. Ask the student to compare and contrast the characters, settings, and plot elements between the two texts. They can create a Venn diagram or write a paragraph highlighting the similarities and differences.
