Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to play a simple song on the piano using both hands.
Materials and Prep
- A piano or keyboard
- A piano stool or chair
- A music sheet with a simple song
- A metronome or a steady beat (you can use a tapping foot or a ticking clock)
Before starting this lesson, make sure you are familiar with the names of the piano keys and have practiced finger placement on the keys.
Activities
-
Warm-up: Start by stretching your fingers and wrists. Shake them out gently to loosen up.
-
Review: Go over the names of the piano keys and practice playing them in order, starting from the lowest note to the highest note.
-
Learn the song: Look at the music sheet and identify the notes and finger numbers required for the song. Practice playing each hand separately, focusing on accuracy and correct finger placement.
-
Combine hands: Once you feel comfortable playing each hand separately, try playing the song with both hands together. Start slowly and gradually increase the tempo.
-
Practice and perform: Spend some time practicing the song at a comfortable pace. Once you feel confident, perform the song for someone else, such as a family member or a friend.
