Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and understand key vocabulary related to the paramedic profession.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and pencil
- Printed pictures of paramedics
- Printed vocabulary flashcards (ambulance, stethoscope, bandage, etc.)
- Access to a computer or tablet for online research (optional)
Activities
- Introduction: Show the pictures of paramedics and ask the student what they think paramedics do. Discuss their responses and explain that paramedics help people when they are sick or injured.
- Vocabulary Flashcards: Introduce the vocabulary flashcards one by one, showing the picture and saying the word out loud. Have the student repeat the word after you and ask them to describe what they see in the picture. Repeat this process for each flashcard.
- Paramedic Research: If you have access to a computer or tablet, search for videos or images of paramedics in action. Watch or look at them together and discuss what the paramedics are doing and why it is important.
- Writing Activity: Ask the student to choose one of the vocabulary words and draw a picture of a paramedic performing that action. Then, have them write the word next to their drawing. Encourage them to sound out the word and write the letters they hear.
- Review: Go through the flashcards again and have the student say the words out loud. Ask them to explain what each word means and how it relates to the work of a paramedic.
