Objective

To introduce the concept of plants and their parts to the student, and to help them understand the importance of plants in our lives.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Printed pictures of different plants

Before starting the lesson, make sure the student knows basic colors and how to use scissors and glue.

Activities

  1. Start by showing the student the printed pictures of different plants. Discuss the various shapes, sizes, and colors of the plants.
  2. Ask the student to choose one plant picture and cut it out carefully.
  3. Using the crayons or colored pencils, have the student color the plant picture.
  4. Help the student identify and label the different parts of the plant, such as the stem, leaves, flowers, and roots.
  5. Guide the student to glue the labeled plant picture onto a piece of paper.
  6. Encourage the student to draw and color a background for the plant, such as soil, sunshine, or other plants.
  7. Discuss the importance of plants in our lives, such as providing oxygen, food, and shelter for animals.
