Remind them to pay attention to the plot, characters, and setting while using the literary devices effectively.
-
Once the student has finished writing, have them read their story or poem aloud.
Encourage them to explain how they utilized each literary device in their piece.
Provide constructive feedback and discuss ways to further improve their writing.
Seventh Grade Talking Points
- "Literary devices are tools that writers use to enhance their writing and create a deeper meaning."
- "Similes compare two things using 'like' or 'as'. For example, 'Her smile is as bright as the sun.'
- "Metaphors also compare two things, but without using 'like' or 'as'. For example, 'His words were a dagger in my heart.'
- "Personification gives human qualities to non-human objects or ideas. For example, 'The wind whispered through the trees.'
- "Imagery uses descriptive language to create vivid mental images. For example, 'The golden sun sank below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink.'
- "Using literary devices can make our writing more engaging and interesting to read."
