Materials and Prep
- Printed coloring sheets with simple sentences or short paragraphs
- Crayons or colored pencils
Activities
- Introduce the concept of reading comprehension by explaining that it means understanding what we read.
- Show the student a coloring sheet with a simple sentence or short paragraph.
- Read the sentence or paragraph aloud to the student.
- Ask the student questions about the text to check their understanding. For example, "What is the main idea of this sentence/paragraph?" or "Can you find a word that rhymes with ____?"
- Encourage the student to color the picture on the coloring sheet while thinking about the text and their answers.
- Repeat the process with different coloring sheets, gradually increasing the complexity of the sentences or paragraphs.
