Objective
By the end of this lesson, the first-grade student will be able to understand basic information about pandas in Spanish, as well as learn a few useful phrases in Spanish.
Materials and Prep
- Pictures or illustrations of pandas
- Whiteboard or paper and markers
- Access to online resources about pandas (optional)
Activities
- Show the student pictures or illustrations of pandas and ask them what they know about these animals. Encourage them to use Spanish words they may already know.
- Introduce the Spanish word for panda, which is "panda". Write it on the whiteboard or paper and practice saying it together.
- Using the pictures or illustrations, teach the student some basic facts about pandas in Spanish. For example, "Los pandas son animales negros y blancos" (Pandas are black and white animals).
- Practice pronunciation of the Spanish phrases by repeating them together multiple times.
- Ask the student to create a simple drawing of a panda and label it with the Spanish word "panda".
- Play a game of "Simon Says" using the learned phrases. For example, give instructions in Spanish like "Simon dice: levanta los brazos" (Simon says: raise your arms) and have the student follow along.
- Encourage the student to use the phrases they have learned in everyday situations, such as saying "Hola" (Hello) or "Gracias" (Thank you) to family members.
