Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic concepts about babies and their development in the context of biology.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and crayons
  • Picture books about babies
  • Optional: Baby dolls or stuffed animals

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have read or have access to books about babies and their growth and development. Familiarize yourself with the information to be able to explain it clearly.

Activities

  1. Draw and label a baby

    Ask the student to draw a picture of a baby and label its body parts. Encourage them to include features like eyes, ears, nose, mouth, arms, and legs. Discuss the importance of each body part in the baby's development.

  2. Read and discuss a baby book

    Choose a picture book about babies and read it together. Pause at each page to ask questions and engage in discussion. Talk about the different activities babies do, such as eating, sleeping, and playing. Highlight the growth and development milestones mentioned in the book.

  3. Pretend play with baby dolls

    If you have baby dolls or stuffed animals, encourage the student to engage in pretend play. They can pretend to feed, change diapers, or put the baby to sleep. While playing, reinforce the concept of caregiving and the needs of a baby.
