Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to design and complete an obstacle course while engaging in physical activity.
Materials and Prep
- Open space for setting up the obstacle course
- Various objects for creating obstacles (e.g., cones, hula hoops, jump ropes, pillows)
- Timer or stopwatch
Activities
- Warm-up: Start with a five-minute warm-up activity such as jumping jacks, running in place, or stretching exercises.
- Designing the Obstacle Course: Explain to the student that they will be designing their own obstacle course. Encourage them to use their imagination and creativity. They can set up obstacles using the materials provided, such as creating a tunnel to crawl through, a balance beam to walk on, or a jumping station with hula hoops. Let them experiment and try different combinations of obstacles.
- Completing the Obstacle Course: Once the obstacle course is set up, guide the student through completing it. Start the timer and encourage them to complete the course as quickly as they can, while still being safe and careful. Provide positive feedback and encouragement throughout the activity.
- Cool-down: Finish the lesson with a five-minute cool-down activity such as deep breathing exercises or gentle stretching.
