Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and comprehend informational texts related to automobiles, while improving their reading and critical thinking skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to a computer or smartphone with internet connection
  • Pen and paper
  • Printed or digital copies of articles or blog posts about automobiles
  • Prior knowledge about basic automobile terminology and concepts

Activities

  1. Research and Select: Ask the student to find and select three different articles or blog posts related to automobiles. These can be about car reviews, automotive technology, historical events, or any other aspect of the automobile industry that interests them.

  2. Read and Summarize: Instruct the student to read each selected article carefully and write a brief summary of the main points and arguments presented in each one. Encourage them to highlight or underline important information as they read.

  3. Compare and Contrast: Have the student compare and contrast the three articles, identifying similarities and differences in their content, tone, and writing style. They can create a Venn diagram or a table to organize their findings.

  4. Reflect and Discuss: Engage in a discussion with the student about their findings. Ask them to share their thoughts on the different perspectives presented in the articles and how they relate to their own opinions or experiences with automobiles.

  5. Write a Review: Finally, challenge the student to write a review or critique of one of the articles they read. Encourage them to express their own thoughts and opinions while providing evidence from the text to support their claims.
