Materials and Prep
- A sewing machine
- Fabric
- Thread
- Scissors

- Seam ripper (optional)
- Preparation: Make sure the sewing machine is threaded and ready to use.
Activities
- Introduction to the sewing machine:
Show the student the different parts of the sewing machine and explain their functions. Demonstrate how to thread the machine and wind the bobbin.
- Practice stitching:
Have the student practice sewing straight lines and curves on scrap fabric. Encourage them to experiment with different stitch lengths and widths.
- Simple sewing project:
Guide the student in creating a small drawstring bag. Provide them with pre-cut fabric pieces and demonstrate how to sew the seams, insert a drawstring, and finish the edges.
- Show and tell:
Have the student showcase their completed drawstring bag and explain the steps they took to make it. Encourage them to share any challenges they faced and how they overcame them.
