Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a scary Halloween story using descriptive language and proper sentence structure.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or pens

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Begin by discussing what makes a story scary. Ask the student to think about their favorite scary Halloween story or movie and identify the elements that make it frightening. Encourage them to share their ideas and write them down.

  2. Creating Characters: Next, have the student create their own scary character for their story. They can draw a picture and write a description of their character's appearance, personality, and any special abilities or powers they may have.

  3. Setting the Scene: Help the student choose a spooky setting for their story. Discuss different locations such as haunted houses, graveyards, or dark forests. Encourage them to use descriptive language to paint a vivid picture of the setting.

  4. Plot Development: Guide the student in creating a plot for their story. Ask them to think about what problem or conflict their character will face and how they will overcome it. Help them outline the beginning, middle, and end of their story.

  5. Writing the Story: Provide the student with paper and have them write their scary Halloween story using the elements they brainstormed. Encourage them to use descriptive language, dialogue, and proper sentence structure. Remind them to include a beginning, middle, and end.

  6. Sharing and Feedback: Once the story is complete, have the student read it aloud or share it with a family member. Encourage them to listen for feedback and make revisions if necessary.
