Activities
Start by discussing with your student what they already know about government and citizenship. Write down their ideas on paper.
Next, launch Minecraft and create a new world. Encourage your student to build a virtual community within the game.
Ask your student to think about the rules and laws they would like to establish in their Minecraft community. Have them write down these rules on paper.
Discuss with your student the importance of following rules and laws in a community. Explain that governments create rules to ensure fairness, safety, and order.
Encourage your student to implement the rules they wrote down in their Minecraft community. Discuss the benefits of having rules and how they help citizens live together harmoniously.
If you have access to the Minecraft Education Edition website, explore the "Global Citizenship" lesson plans together. Discuss the responsibilities of being a global citizen and how it relates to Minecraft.
